This weekend, the Royal Malta Golf Club hosted its second Major Championship of the season, the Laferla Wedgwood Trophy, a tournament that has been played for since 1992.

The event attracted over 100 golfers, with scoring proving extremely strong over the two days of competition, helped by warm and calm weather conditions. In the build-up to the tournament, the practice areas were consistently busy, as players prepared to compete for one of the club’s most prestigious trophies.

Day 1 saw Denis Baltzis set the pace with an impressive round of 7 under par, closely followed by Andrew Naudi on 6 under and Pontus Kinder on 5 under, keeping the leaderboard tightly contested going into the final day.

On Day 2, scoring remained high as players continued to challenge the leaders. Avnish Dahl produced another strong performance, while Panos Baltzis also impressed, posting 5 under par to close the gap on his brother Denis. The second day also featured notable performances from juniors Moss Kiberu, aged 10, and Alex Ganado, aged 12, both carding 3 under par rounds, highlighting the promising future of golf in Malta.

After two days of competition, the overall winner was determined by the lowest combined score. Avnish Dahl claimed victory with a total of 9 under par, ahead of Denis Baltzis in second place on 8 under, and Panos Baltzis in third on 7 under.
