Swedish Arsenal striker trademarks iconic goal mask celebration

Arsenal’s Swedish international striker Viktor Gyökeres has officially registered his goal celebration as a trademark.
According to Swedish outlet Expressen, which has reviewed documents from the EU Intellectual Property Office, the application was approved in September.
The trademark includes an image of Gyökeres performing his signature celebration, where he crosses his hands in front of his face to resemble a mask.
Gyökeres now joins a growing number of footballers who have taken steps to legally protect their unique goal celebrations, turning them into recognised personal brands
Kylian Mbappé and Cole Palmer have also previously registered their goal celebrations as trademarks. In Palmer’s case, the move was aimed at gaining greater control over the commercial use of his personal brand.
According to Palmer’s legal representatives, the trademark was not intended to stop other athletes or children from replicating similar celebrations. As reported by Expressen, his law firm clarified that the protection was focused on commercial usage rather than general imitation.
