FAIRBET-WIDE-BANNER-1024x192 ASA Statement on Ongoing Betting Investigation

The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta (ASA) wishes to inform all that, as of close of
business yesterday, it entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Malta
Gaming Authority (MGA), through which it has been granted access to the MGA’s report
related to this matter.

This agreement follows the recent appointment of an Integrity Officer within the ASA, who
has taken immediate steps in recent weeks to establish direct cooperation channels with
the MGA.

The ASA confirms that it has initiated an investigation into potential integrity breaches,
which amongst others, involves a number of national water polo players.

This process is being handled by the ASA Integrity Office, which is conducting the
investigation in accordance with established regulatory procedures and with full operational
independence. In line with good governance principles, the Integrity Office acts
independently from both the Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sports (AIMS) and the ASA
administration. The ASA Integrity Office is also in contact with the MGA, European Aquatics
and World Aquatics to ensure appropriate coordination.

At this stage, the ASA Integrity Office notes that, based on the information currently
available from the same report, the preliminary view does not suggest any match-fixing or
deliberate attempts to compromise competition outcomes. Some betting activity has been
identified among certain individuals which do constitute breaches, but the conduct
observed does not appear to constitute match-fixing. The investigation is ongoing, and the
Integrity Office will continue to monitor and assess the matter carefully.

The Association remains firmly committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity
within aquatic sports. Any conduct that may compromise the fairness and credibility of
competition will be addressed with the utmost seriousness.

Further updates will be provided as necessary. In the meantime, the ASA will not be making
additional comments so as to safeguard the integrity of the ongoing process.
