MAFA Roundup: Għaxaq Wolves Held by Valletta Stars

MAFA First Division champions Għaxaq Wolves were held to a 1-1 draw by Valletta Stars St Dominic in the main match of the tenth round of the competition. Meanwhile, Senglea Gunners moved up to second place in the standings following a comfortable win over Balluta Barracudas, while Valletta St Paul’s continued their positive run with a victory against San Ġiljan Saints.
Għaxaq Wolves vs Valletta Stars St Dominic 1-1
Għaxaq Wolves and Valletta Stars St Dominic shared the spoils in an entertaining 1-1 draw. The Valletta side took the lead in the 11th minute when Abba Auwal made a good run into the box and finished low past goalkeeper Oliver Grixti.
In the second half, Għaxaq responded and equalised in the 40th minute through Zvezdan Vukovic following sustained pressure.
In stoppage time, Għaxaq had a goal by Diego Fernando Pereira disallowed after a foul was adjudged in the same action.
Despite the draw, Għaxaq remain six points clear at the top of the table, while Valletta Stars stay in fourth place.

Balluta Barracudas vs Senglea Gunners 0-2
A goal in each half was enough for Senglea Gunners to register their fifth win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Balluta Barracudas.
Ousman Jallow gave the Cottonera side the lead, while Moses Nwankwo sealed the win four minutes from time.
This result lifts Senglea Gunners into second place, while Balluta Barracudas remain close to relegation to the Second Division.

Valletta St Paul’s vs San Ġiljan Saints 2-1
Valletta St Paul’s player Andre Farrugia was the central figure in this match, scoring all the goals in a 2-1 victory for his side.
San Ġiljan Saints had taken the lead in the 14th minute through an own goal by Farrugia. However, the same player made amends by scoring twice between the 63rd and 70th minutes to complete the comeback.
With these three points, Valletta St Paul’s move into fifth place and will be hoping to climb further up the standings.

Ħamrun Sporting – Swieqi United 3-0
Ħamrun Sporting registered their second consecutive win in the second round of the Second Division after defeating Swieqi United 3-0.
The Ħamrun side showed their intent early, taking the lead after just three minutes through Tijane Sowe. In the second half, Junior Ohalewe added two more goals to secure a deserved victory, leaving Ħamrun level at the top of the table with Birżebbuġa St Peter’s AFC.

Ta’ Ġiorni Wanderers vs Naxxar Victorians 0-3
Naxxar Victorians bounced back strongly from their opening defeat in the second round with a convincing 3-0 win over Ta’ Ġiorni Wanderers.
Liam Sciberras opened the scoring after just four minutes, while Mohammed Elosta and Andre Camilleri added further goals in the second half to seal the victory.
