Arsenal’s Gabriel pulls out of Brazil squad with knee injury

Gabriel Magalhães has withdrawn from the Brazil national football team squad this week after picking up a knee injury.
The Arsenal defender becomes the fifth player to pull out of international duty, following the news that Jurrien Timber, Eberechi Eze, William Saliba and Leandro Trossard will all remain in north London to rest and recover.
The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed that Gabriel will miss the upcoming friendlies against France national football team and Croatia national football team due to a right knee problem.
In an official statement, the governing body said Gabriel complained of discomfort following EFL Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday. Subsequent scans confirmed he is not fit to participate in this international window, and no replacement call-up will be made.
This update also comes after Martin Ødegaard was not selected for Norway national football team duty, while Estevão Willian was left out of the Brazil national football team squad as both players continue their recovery from injury.
Arsenal return to action against Southampton F.C. in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, following the international break, before facing Sporting CP just three days later in the UEFA Champions League.
Manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping several key players recover in time as the club looks to continue its push for a potential treble and secure its first trophy since 2020.
