Team principal Jonathan Wheatley exits Audi Revolut F1 just two races into 2026 season

Jonathan Wheatley has left Audi Revolut F1 with immediate effect, the team confirmed on Friday.
In an official statement, the team said: “Due to personal reasons, Jonathan Wheatley will depart Audi with immediate effect.”
It added: “The team thanks Jonathan for his contribution to the project and wishes him the best for his future endeavours.”
Mattia Binotto, head of the Audi F1 Project, will continue to lead the organisation while also taking on additional duties as team principal.
Jonathan Wheatley previously served as sporting director at Red Bull Racing from 2006 to 2024 before moving to Sauber (now rebranded as Audi Revolut F1) as team principal.
Speculation over the 58-year-old Englishman’s future intensified after the Chinese Grand Prix, with reports linking him to a possible move to Aston Martin F1 Team as a potential successor to Adrian Newey, who is said to be considering a shift back into a more technical role.
At the Chinese Grand Prix, Audi finished 11th with Nico Hülkenberg, while Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto was unable to start the race. The team had also faced earlier setbacks in the season opener at the Australian Grand Prix, where Hülkenberg was similarly unable to take the start due to technical issues affecting the car.
