A pivotal week for men’s futsal in Malta saw key positions for the upcoming playoffs begin to take shape across both leagues.

In the Challenger Futsal League, Sliema Futsal Fort Fitness cruised to a 5-1 victory over Futsal Selection U17, with Brazilian forward Rodrigues Silva Leonardo delivering a standout performance by netting four goals.

Elsewhere, Santa Venera Lightnings Futsal and Futsal Selection U19 shared the spoils in a thrilling 5-5 draw. Noel Busuttil was the star for Santa Venera, also scoring four goals in a closely contested and high-tempo encounter.

In the Premier Futsal League, two matches were played, and despite a few fixtures still pending, the playoff lineup has now been confirmed.

Marsaskala Futsal Legends produced a commanding display to defeat Zejtun Corinthians Futsal 13-3. The result means Żejtun will drop into the Challenger League playoffs. Karl Luke Schembri was the standout performer, scoring an impressive six goals.

In the other fixture, University of Malta Futsal secured a 5-1 win over GZR Birzebbugia St Peter’s Futsal, keeping their hopes of finishing top of the table alive. They now have the chance to force a title decider when they face Luxol St Andrews Futsal on March 20.

While the Premier League awaits its final match to determine the final standings, the Challenger League now shifts into its playoff phase. Santa Venera Lightnings Futsal will take on Futsal Selection U17 in the quarter-final, with the winner advancing to face Zejtun Corinthians Futsal in the semi-final. The other semi-final will see Futsal Selection U19 go up against Sliema Futsal Fort Fitness.
