Harry Kane will miss Bayern Munich’s Friday Bundesliga home match against Borussia Mönchengladbach due to a calf injury, coach Vincent Kompany confirmed on Thursday. ⚽

The England national football team captain has been in sensational form this season, netting twice in last week’s 3–2 victory over second-placed Borussia Dortmund, which extended Bayern’s lead at the top of the table to 11 points.

“He took a knock to his calf and has not fully recovered yet,” Kompany said at a press conference. “It’s just a knock, nothing serious for the near future, but we may be a day short of him being able to play.

“We’re pretty relaxed about it, but obviously we would have liked Harry to be there.”

Kane has matched a league record by scoring at least two goals in four consecutive matches and has already netted 30 goals in 24 Bundesliga appearances this season. The 32-year-old is chasing the all-time Bundesliga record of 41 goals, held by Robert Lewandowski, and has also equalled a league milestone with his 10th successful penalty of the campaign.

Bayern will also be without defenders Hiroki Ito and Alphonso Davies, as the team braces for a congested schedule ahead of their Champions League round-of-16 first leg at Atalanta in Italy next week.

Kompany cautioned that Bayern’s comfortable lead does not guarantee the title. The German champions sit on 63 points, with Dortmund second on 52 and Hoffenheim third on 46.

“We’ve had an 11-point lead before and we know how quickly that can change,” said the Belgian. “We only focus on our performance and our wins – I glanced at the table once after the Dortmund game, and it looked good. But after that, only Gladbach mattered again.”
