Crystal Palace manager Glasner hit with six-month driving ban over speeding offense

Oliver Glasner, manager of Crystal Palace, has been banned from driving for six months after exceeding a 20mph speed limit in London.
The 51-year-old Austrian was caught by a speed camera last July while driving his BMW along Old Kent Road. Court records showed that Glasner had previous driving offences, making him liable for an automatic disqualification.
Glasner pleaded guilty in writing to travelling at 29mph in the 20mph zone at Willesden Magistrates’ Court, submitting a handwritten note promising not to break the law again.
“I fully accept responsibility for my actions and understand the seriousness of this matter,” he wrote. “I have taken steps to ensure it will not happen again. Due to the nature of my role, I will ensure I take the steps to address the issue.”
A magistrate, sitting privately, imposed the six-month ban last Tuesday. Glasner was also ordered to pay a £660 fine, £130 in costs, and a £264 victim surcharge.
Glasner guided Palace to FA Cup glory in May, marking the club’s first major trophy, but the side were knocked out of this season’s FA Cup in January by non-league Macclesfield.
The manager announced shortly after that he would leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season, citing frustration with the club’s transfer policy, which saw key players leave and those remaining “abandoned completely” according to Glasner.
Palace face London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday in a crucial Premier League clash as they fight to avoid relegation, with Spurs just a point above the bottom three.
Glasner initially submitted his guilty plea on January 27 and confirmed he would accept the ban without an open court hearing in a follow-up letter on February 16. The details of the case were only revealed this week after the Press Association obtained the court documents.
