Galatasaray fans banned from Liverpool clash after fireworks incident involving Juventus supporters

Galatasaray will be unable to sell tickets to their supporters for this month’s UEFA Champions League trip to Liverpool after UEFA’s Appeals Body upheld sanctions imposed following crowd trouble in Turin.
The punishment relates to incidents during last week’s clash with Juventus, where Galatasaray fans were found guilty of throwing objects, lighting fireworks and causing disturbances inside the stadium.
According to media reports in Italy, a man and his daughter were injured when a firework was thrown towards the Juventus section during the dramatic playoff encounter. Juventus, reduced to 10 men, overturned a three-goal deficit from a 5-2 first-leg loss to force extra time in the tie.
Galatasaray ultimately progressed to the round of 16 after scoring twice in extra time to seal a 7-5 aggregate victory, but their celebrations were overshadowed by the disciplinary fallout.
UEFA’s disciplinary committee fined the Turkish champions €40,000 ($46,000) and imposed a ban on away ticket sales for the upcoming fixture at Anfield. Galatasaray lodged an appeal against the sanctions, but that was rejected on Wednesday, confirming the restrictions will stand.
Liverpool are scheduled to travel to Istanbul on Tuesday, with the return leg set for March 18, though Galatasaray will now be without travelling support for the visit to Merseyside as a result of UEFA’s ruling.
