Knicks crush Spurs to snap their 11-game winning streak

Jalen Brunson poured in 25 points as the New York Knicks ended the San Antonio Spurs’ 11-game winning streak in emphatic fashion with a 114-89 victory at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.
San Antonio arrived in New York brimming with confidence after an unbeaten February run — their longest surge since a 13-0 streak during the 2015-16 campaign. Victor Wembanyama, who had been relatively quiet in the Spurs’ previous two outings, started aggressively and finished with 25 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks. However, he received little support. Devin Vassell (18 points) and Stephon Castle (13 points) were the only other Spurs to reach double figures.
The Knicks’ defensive intensity proved decisive. San Antonio shot just nine-of-34 from three-point range and committed a season-high 22 turnovers, which New York converted into 24 points. Mikal Bridges set the tone defensively with five steals, helping disrupt the Spurs’ rhythm throughout the night.
“Good win by our guys,” said Knicks head coach Mike Brown. “San Antonio is a really good team. They obviously missed some shots, but I thought our weak-side defense was really good. For them to shoot 26–27 percent from three, our activity on the weak side was really good.”
The Spurs raced into an early lead and went up by as many as 12 in the first quarter. But the Knicks edged ahead by one at the end of the opening period and never looked back, unleashing a decisive 26-2 run spanning the first and second quarters to take full control.
Karl-Anthony Towns added 12 points and 14 rebounds for New York, who had six players score in double figures and held San Antonio to a season-low points total.

San Antonio’s loss saw them lose ground in the Western Conference title race behind the Oklahoma City Thunder. The reigning NBA champions improved to 47-15 with a 100-87 road victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led Oklahoma City with 30 points in his return to action, recording his 123rd consecutive 20-point game. He now sits just three shy of matching Wilt Chamberlain’s historic mark of 126 straight games with at least 20 points, set between 1961 and 1963.
The Minnesota Timberwolves strengthened their playoff push with a 117-108 win over the Denver Nuggets in Colorado. Anthony Edwards scored 21 points and Jaden McDaniels added 20 as Minnesota overturned an early 11-point deficit with a dominant second quarter. Donte DiVincenzo chipped in 17 points, including five three-pointers.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons maintained their hold on top spot in the Eastern Conference with a 106-92 win over the Orlando Magic. After trailing 57-50 at halftime, Detroit outscored Orlando 56-35 in the second half to improve to 45-14.
The Boston Celtics kept pace in second place, moving to 40-20 with a 114-98 victory against the Philadelphia 76ers.
