DJ Spritz Smashes Record to Claim EquestriMalta President’s Cup

Pre-race favorite DJ Spritz lived up to the hype on Sunday, March 1, 2026, delivering a commanding performance to win the EquestriMalta President’s Cup. Driven by Daniel Hili, the seven-year-old Italian trotter dominated the 25th edition of this prestigious championship, marking the fifth year of EquestriMalta’s financial sponsorship.
Starting as the heavy favorite (2.00 on the tote; 4/6 with bookmakers), DJ Spritz seized the lead immediately after the start. Hili dictated a comfortable tempo over the 2140-meter distance, keeping the field at bay. Although the second favorite, Farmer Keryvon, attempted a challenge with 900 meters remaining, DJ Spritz shifted into another gear to pull away.
The victory was historic, as DJ Spritz clocked an average time of 1’12.1 per kilometer—the fastest winning time ever recorded in a President’s Cup final.
The win extends DJ Spritz’s perfect record on Maltese soil; since debuting in Gozo last November, the horse remains undefeated with four consecutive wins in Malta.
The Final Standings:
- DJ Spritz (Daniel Hili) – €5,000 prize
- Diablo D’Herfraie (Jesmar Gafa’)
- Extra Du Chatelet (Ludvig Ghigo)
- Zinfandel (Charles Camilleri)
- Eldorado De Ver (Noel Baldacchino)
A total prize pool of €9,450 was distributed among the top five finishers. Following the race, Acting President Helena Dalli presented the trophies to the winning connections, accompanied by officials from EquestriMalta, Malta Equidrome, and the Malta Racing Club.
First established in the summer of 1992, the President’s Cup has returned to its status as a pinnacle of the local racing calendar following a previous hiatus, continuing its legacy as one of Malta’s premier equestrian events.
