Jake Paul has revealed he has undergone a second jaw surgery following his knockout defeat to former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

The pair met in a controversial, Netflix-backed bout in December, with Joshua ultimately overpowering his less experienced opponent. In the sixth round, the British two-time world champion forced Paul into a corner and landed a crushing right hand to the chin, sending the 28-year-old crashing to the canvas.

Shortly after the fight, Paul disclosed that he had suffered a “double broken jaw” and required surgery. However, on Friday he confirmed via Instagram that further complications had led to another operation.

“Had to get another jaw surgery. The screws and plates were coming loose because apparently I didn’t rest for the past two months whaattttttttt,” Paul wrote.

The bout, staged at Miami’s Kaseya Center, reportedly saw the fighters split a staggering $184 million purse. Despite the financial success, the contest was widely criticised within boxing circles due to the disparity in pedigree and physical stature between Joshua — an established former world champion — and Paul, who built his boxing profile through crossover and novelty fights.

At times, the fight descended into farce, with Paul repeatedly dropping to the canvas and attempting to grapple at Joshua’s legs. Referee Christopher Young issued a stern warning in the fourth round, telling the fighters: “The fans did not pay to see this crap.”

For Paul, attention now turns to recovery after a punishing night that exposed the gulf between social-media stardom and elite-level heavyweight boxing.
