Tottenham explore potential return for former manager Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur have begun exploring the possibility of reappointing Mauricio Pochettino as they intensify their search for a successor to Thomas Frank, with the Argentine emerging as the club’s priority target.
A number of candidates have been linked with the vacancy, including Roberto De Zerbi, Robbie Keane, Andoni Iraola, Oliver Glasner and Gareth Southgate. However, Pochettino is viewed internally as the dream appointment.
Senior figures at the club believe he is uniquely placed to reconnect players and supporters while restoring higher standards within the squad. There is a strong sense that Pochettino’s emotional bond with Tottenham, combined with his ambition, could help rebuild unity and re-establish a clear identity.
The past two seasons — under both Ange Postecoglou and Frank — have been marked by increasing frustration. Home performances in particular have fueled discontent among supporters, with tension regularly spilling over on matchdays.
For Tottenham’s hierarchy, this is a pivotal moment. The next managerial appointment must stabilise the club and reset the atmosphere around the team.
Should Spurs receive encouragement that Pochettino is attainable, it is understood they would consider appointing an interim manager for the remainder of the season to facilitate a longer-term reunion.
Ideally, the club want clarity on their direction by the start of next week as they prepare for a crucial clash with Arsenal. With players due back in training on Monday, there is hope a definitive message can be delivered regarding the pathway forward.
Pochettino is currently head coach of the United States men’s national soccer team and is preparing for a World Cup on home soil. Sources indicate that while he has always remained open-minded about a return to Spurs, he is committed to leading the United States into the tournament and would not walk away from that responsibility.
Tottenham must now weigh the complexity of structuring any potential deal, while also addressing the immediate challenges of a season that has drifted uncomfortably close to the relegation zone.
