Frank reveals Tottenham resolved Romero outburst internally

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank has confirmed that Cristian Romero’s recent social media outburst regarding the club’s transfer activity has been addressed internally, though he declined to say whether any disciplinary action was taken.
Romero sparked controversy on Monday, shortly after the January transfer window closed, when he posted on Instagram revealing that he had played through illness in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City. The Spurs captain also described it as “disgraceful” that the squad had been reduced to just 11 fit players.
His comments struck a chord with many supporters, who have expressed frustration at Tottenham’s limited transfer business since the signing of Conor Gallagher on January 14. Concerns have grown further after the club suffered nine injury setbacks since the start of 2026.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Manchester United, Frank insisted that Romero’s remarks were a matter for the player himself.
“If you want to know what he meant, you need to ask him,” Frank said. “That is the right way to approach that question.
“Cuti is a very passionate player. He gives everything on the pitch, he is ambitious, and he wants to win every time.”
The Spurs boss acknowledged that Romero’s intensity can sometimes lead to emotional reactions.
“Sometimes when you are like that, there can be an outburst, and that happened this time,” Frank added. “It’s something we have dealt with internally.”
When asked whether Romero had been fined or formally disciplined — particularly given his previous social media criticism following January’s 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth — Frank avoided giving a direct answer.
“There are many ways of handling situations,” he said. “I wouldn’t have posted it myself. That’s my message.
“The thing about written text is that people can interpret it in many ways, and nobody really knows the intention except Cuti and those who have spoken to him.
“It shows how passionate he is. He wants to win and wants to achieve great things with his team-mates. But if you want clarity, you’ll need to ask him next time you speak to him.”
