Liam Rosenior has publicly backed Chelsea’s interest in Douglas Luiz as the club steps up efforts to reinforce its midfield ahead of the second half of the season.

The Blues have monitored the Brazilian midfielder since last summer and revisited the possibility of a move in December. Over recent weeks, Chelsea have carried out internal discussions and assessments to determine the feasibility of a deal.

These talks have focused primarily on a potential loan arrangement that would see Luiz join Stamford Bridge for the remainder of the campaign.

Currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus, Luiz’s situation could be restructured to allow a switch to Chelsea if all parties reach an agreement. Sources suggest negotiations have progressed positively, with growing confidence that a deal could be finalised in the coming days. Greater clarity is expected soon.

Rosenior believes Luiz would be an ideal addition to his tactical system, offering both quality and depth to a squad competing across multiple competitions. With domestic and European fixtures intensifying, strengthening the midfield has become a priority.

Chelsea have relied heavily on Enzo Fernández and Moisés Caicedo this season. While the duo has formed a solid partnership, the increasing physical and tactical demands have highlighted the need for additional support. Luiz’s arrival would provide valuable rotation and cover.

His Premier League experience, technical ability, and composure in possession are viewed as major assets. Club officials believe his presence could help manage workload and reduce the risk of fatigue as the season enters its decisive phase.

With discussions ongoing, Chelsea remain optimistic about completing the deal in the near future.
