Atlético cruise past Mallorca to maintain perfect home form

Atlético Madrid extended their formidable home record with a commanding 3-0 victory over relegation-threatened Mallorca at the Metropolitano, marking their 13th consecutive home win in LaLiga.
Diego Simeone’s side asserted their dominance early against struggling opposition and created the first clear chance after 15 minutes, when Alexander Sørloth’s low strike from inside the box was well saved by goalkeeper Leo Román.
The Norwegian forward was not to be denied for long. Moments later, Atlético broke the deadlock after Johan Mojica’s headed clearance fell to Marcos Llorente. His powerful volley was parried by Román straight into Sørloth’s path, and the striker reacted quickly to prod the ball home from close range. The goal continued Atlético’s impressive trend of scoring first in all 11 of their home league matches this season.
Mallorca, who have now conceded 21 of their 31 league goals before half-time, struggled once again in the opening period. The visitors failed to register a single shot on target in the first half as Atlético maintained control and went into the break with a deserved lead.
Despite failing to score on their previous two visits to Madrid, Mallorca entered the second half hoping to avoid another blank. However, their attacking problems persisted, offering little threat to the home defence.
While Atlético were not at their fluent best after the restart, they doubled their advantage in fortunate circumstances when Mateu Morey’s attempted clearance deflected off David López’s face and into his own net.
Thiago Almada sealed the victory in the closing stages with a powerful strike from inside the penalty area, ensuring a comfortable afternoon for Simeone’s men.
The result strengthens Atlético’s position in the top four and keeps their slim hopes of a third LaLiga title under Simeone alive.
For Mallorca, the defeat deepens their relegation concerns. They remain 16th in the table, just two points above the drop zone, and have played more matches than the teams below them.
