Seven Maltese players are set to compete in the World Snooker Federation (WSF) World Snooker Championship, which commences today, Saturday, January 24, in Sofia, Bulgaria. The tournament, which runs until Sunday, February 1, is an open event featuring 195 participants from 35 countries, divided into 39 groups of five.

The Maltese contingent includes reigning local champion Brian Cini, who reached the final of this competition last year in Morocco, narrowly losing to China’s Yang Gao. Joining him are Aaron Busuttil, Chris Peplow, Alex Borg, and Chris Camilleri, who traveled to Sofia on Friday, alongside Joseph Casha and Xavier Rizzo, who were already on-site.

All seven players will play their opening group matches today. The first phase of the tournament is scheduled to conclude on Wednesday, January 28.
