Hamburg part ways with Stefan Kuntz after sexual harassment claims

German Bundesliga club Hamburger SV (HSV) confirmed on Monday that former sports director Stefan Kuntz has been dismissed following allegations of sexual harassment.
“In December 2025, the Supervisory Board of HSV Fußball Management AG received allegations of serious misconduct by Stefan Kuntz,” the club said in a statement.
After assessing the claims, the board deemed the statements from the affected parties credible and decided to end the collaboration with immediate effect. Kuntz reportedly agreed to the termination but repeatedly refused to provide a statement to the board.
HSV also addressed claims made by Kuntz on social media on Sunday, in which he suggested a smear campaign against him and indicated he would pursue legal action against German media outlet Bild, which first reported the story. The club rejected these assertions.
“HSV does not tolerate any form of sexual harassment and stands firm on values such as respect, tolerance, and non-discriminatory behavior,” the statement added.
Kuntz, a former German international, earned 25 caps between 1993 and 1997, scoring six goals. He represented Germany at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, reaching the quarter-finals, and helped the team win UEFA Euro 1996, scoring in the semi-final victory over England.
As a coach, Kuntz led Germany’s Under-21 national team from 2016 to 2021 and managed the Turkish national team from 2021 to 2023.
