Cristian Chivu expressed confidence on Monday that his Inter Milan side can overturn a two-goal deficit against Bodø/Glimt and secure a place in the Champions League last 16.

Inter fell 3-1 in Norway last week, putting them at risk of joining reigning Italian champions Napoli in early elimination from Europe’s elite club competition.

“We don’t have any obligations, only a duty. All we need to do is go out on the pitch and do what we know we can do,” Chivu told reporters ahead of Tuesday’s clash at the San Siro.

“We have to go out there knowing that if there’s a team to turn this around, it’s us… We can’t lose faith in ourselves or our self-confidence. If we want any chance of qualifying from the play-offs, we need to be the best version of ourselves.”

Inter will be without captain Lautaro Martinez in attack, and Chivu offered no update on the fitness of key midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, who has been troubled by recurring muscular issues in recent weeks.

The winner of the tie will face either Manchester City or Sporting CP in the Champions League last 16 next month.

Bodø/Glimt have enjoyed a remarkable debut campaign in Europe, reaching the knock-out stage with surprise victories over Manchester City and Atletico Madrid in their final two group-stage matches.
