Tottenham Hotspur have provisionally climbed into the automatic knockout spots of the UEFA Champions League group stage following a commanding 4-0 victory over FC Copenhagen in London. The win extends Spurs’ unbeaten streak at home in UEFA competitions to 22 games since the start of the 2020/21 season (18 wins, 4 draws).

Copenhagen, still searching for a first point in the group stage, started brightly, issuing two early warnings in the opening 20 minutes. Pantelis Hatzidiakos deflected a Xavi Simons effort wide, before Pedro Porro’s free kick sailed narrowly over the bar.

Tottenham, however, broke the deadlock shortly after. A sloppy pass from Gabriel Pereira gifted possession to Simons, who spotted Brennan Johnson’s perfectly timed run and threaded the ball through. Johnson, despite a tight angle on the right side of goal, calmly slotted the ball past the overcommitted Dominik Kotarski for his first goal in eight games.

Spurs had opportunities to extend their lead but allowed Copenhagen to regroup—a risky move against a team boasting 18 different goal scorers this season. Elias Achouri had a rare attempt for the visitors but fired well over the bar. Tottenham nearly doubled the lead before half-time, as a slick one-touch sequence between Wilson Odobert and Simons created a clear chance for Randal Kolo Muani, but he miscontrolled Simons’ final pass and shot wide.

The breakthrough came five minutes into the second half. Muani surged down the right flank, forcing Kotarski off his line. The goalkeeper blocked his initial attempt, but Muani’s follow-up found Odobert, who made no mistake from close range.

Copenhagen almost pulled one back when Youssoufa Moukoko curled an effort that was comfortably held by goalkeeper Vicario. The game took another turn when Johnson was sent off for a reckless challenge on Marcos Lopez, reducing Spurs to ten men.

Rather than faltering, Tottenham went on the offensive, scoring twice in quick succession. The highlight was Micky van de Ven’s stunning solo goal: he won possession near his own box, sprinted past five Copenhagen players, and fired confidently into the net—a contender for goal of the season.

Copenhagen barely recovered before Spurs added a fourth. Cristian Romero broke through the middle and set up Joao Palhinha, who powered the ball home. Richarlison later struck the bar and converted a penalty in injury time after Dane Scarlett was fouled in the box, bringing the scoreline to 4-0.

While the rout could have been even larger, Tottenham’s four-goal haul marked a strong statement under Thomas Frank, even if their opponents were outclassed from the outset.

For Copenhagen, it was another heavy defeat. They remain winless in the group stage and risk dropping to second-bottom of the table, having failed to score in 13 of their last 14 UEFA away fixtures.
