Bayern Munich were the most heavily sanctioned club in UEFA’s latest disciplinary update on Wednesday, facing €116,000 ($136,300) in fines and a partial stadium closure for their next Champions League home fixture.

The German giants were penalized for blocking public passageways and lighting fireworks during their recent match against Sporting CP. As part of the sanctions, UEFA enforced a previously suspended penalty, resulting in the closure of sectors 111 to 114 at the Allianz Stadium for Bayern’s next UEFA home game against Union Saint-Gilloise on January 21.

Additionally, Bayern were handed a suspended partial closure of the entire South Tribune for a future match, which will only take effect if further infractions occur within a two-year probationary period.

Bayern also faced fines linked to their away defeat to Arsenal last month. The club was fined €40,000 for crowd disturbances and throwing objects, and an extra €30,000 for “transmitting messages not fit for a sports event.”

Eintracht Frankfurt Banned from Away Ticket Sales

UEFA’s Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Body also enforced a previously suspended sanction on Eintracht Frankfurt, barring the club from selling tickets to their away supporters for their next match. The measures come after Frankfurt fans threw objects, lit fireworks, and caused damage at Camp Nou during their 2-1 loss to Barcelona.

Frankfurt were fined €38,000 and have 30 days to contact Barcelona to settle damages caused by their supporters, including damage to toilets in the away section. The German side’s next away game is against Qarabag in Azerbaijan.

Other Sanctions

  • Sporting CP were fined €40,000 and received an away-ticket ban.
  • Lille were fined €10,000 and given a suspended away-ticket ban for fireworks offenses during their Europa League match against Young Boys.
  • Maccabi Tel-Aviv were fined €20,000 for racist or discriminatory behavior by their supporters in their Europa League game against VfB Stuttgart.
