In an action-packed Saturday of football in the BOV Amateur League II, Msida St. Joseph and Dingli Swallows secured vital victories to maintain their pursuit of league leaders Kalkara United. Meanwhile, dramatic late goals defined a pair of high-scoring draws at the Sirens and Luxol Stadiums.

Msida St. Joseph 4-1 Sta. Venera Lightnings

Msida St. Joseph consolidated their second-place position with a convincing 4-1 win over Sta. Venera Lightnings at the Sirens Stadium. The match remained tight for much of the first half until Zayon Carter broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute to give Msida a narrow lead at the interval.

Sta. Venera showed resilience early in the second half, finding an equalizer through Desire Kobe in the 54th minute. However, the game was ultimately decided by a spectacular individual performance from Thomas Grima. Grima restored Msida’s lead from the penalty spot in the 65th minute and struck again just two minutes later to make it 3-1. He put the icing on the cake by completing his hat-trick one minute into stoppage time, securing three crucial points for the Saints.

Dingli Swallows 2-0 Ta’ Xbiex

At the Luxol Stadium, Dingli Swallows remained firmly in the promotion hunt with a disciplined 2-0 victory over Ta’ Xbiex. Dingli took an early lead in the 16th minute through Jayden John Bonanno, allowing them to control the tempo of the match. The result was put beyond doubt early in the second half when Ronaldinho Daley found the net in the 52nd minute. The win leaves Dingli just one point behind Msida in the standings.

Gharghur 2-2 Siggiewi

A thrilling encounter at the Sirens Stadium saw Gharghur and Siggiewi share the spoils in a back-and-forth 2-2 draw. The match turned into a duel between two clinical finishers. Mark Bonello Ghio put Gharghur ahead in the 54th minute, only for Juan Artiaga to level the score for Siggiewi in the 70th. Bonello Ghio appeared to have snatched a winner when he scored his second in the 79th minute, but Artiaga responded once again with an 87th-minute equalizer to ensure both teams took a point.

Marsaskala 2-2 Mdina Knights

The Luxol Stadium played host to the most dramatic finish of the day as Marsaskala and Mdina Knights played out a 2-2 draw. Mdina took an early lead through Jordan Vella (12′) and held it until the 82nd minute when Vivi-Gaetan Mahop equalized for the Southseasiders.

The closing moments were a rollercoaster; Mdina thought they had secured all three points when Wisdom Ifeanyi Wisdom scored two minutes into added time. However, Marsaskala refused to quit, and Luca Pace found the back of the net four minutes later (90+6′) to salvage a dramatic draw.
