Third win in a row for The Lion in Bavaria Championship final

The most important race was the Bavaria Championship final for class Gold trotters on a long distance of 2640 metres and which was won by The Lion driven by Rodney Gatt.
Twelve trotters lined up for the class Gold final. Formi (Joe Schembri) was the fastest horse at first, opening a small lead from The Lion (Rodney Gatt) and Cinik D’Aghi (Miguel McKay).
With 300 metres to go, Formi started to slow down and in the final straight was overtaken by The Lion which gained its third win in a row and in Malta easily by two lenghts from Hamlet Du Vivier (Clint Vassallo) and Hampton Du Vivier (Nathaniel Barbara). Emile Du Var (Jesmar Gafa’) ended in fourth place.
At the end of this final, Mark Farrugia, on behalf of the sponsors, presented the trophy to Rodney Gatt and Josef Cassar, the driver and owner, respectively, of the winning horse.
Sunday’s card included also a normal class Premier race. Gaucho De Houelle (Daniel Debono) registered its first win in Malta after taking the lead with a lap to go.
Felix Du Bourg (Miguel McKay), Hiant Du Val (Rodney Gatt) and I.D. Forecast (Charles Camilleri) followed home in that order.
Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held on Friday. The first race should start at 7pm.
