Teemu Pukki marks farewell with goal as Finland rout Andorra

Teemu Pukki’s 133rd and final appearance for Finland saw the 35-year-old striker net his 43rd and last goal for his country as the Finns cruised to a 4-0 win over Andorra in a friendly at Tampere’s Tammelan Stadion.
The result offered redemption after Friday’s disappointing 1-0 home loss to Malta in Pukki’s final competitive match for the Eagle Owls, closing their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign on a sour note.
Finland started brightly, with Oliver Antman cutting inside to test Andorra goalkeeper Xisco Pires after just 17 minutes. A minute later, Antman made the breakthrough, latching onto a deflected through ball from Kaan Kairinen and calmly slotting past Pires to put the home side ahead.
The moment fans had been waiting for arrived in the 26th minute, as snowfall intensified in Tampere. Antman broke through the Andorran defence once more and laid the ball off to Pukki. Despite stumbling under pressure from Max Llovera, Pukki managed to nudge the ball into the bottom corner, scoring a scrappy yet celebrated final goal for Finland.
Pukki came close to a second shortly after, but Pires denied him from a tight angle. The HJK striker was again thwarted during a goalmouth scramble, while Robin Lod’s follow-up attempt was blocked on the line. Around the hour mark, another loose ball fell to Pukki 12 yards out, but he fired straight at Pires.
Andorra briefly thought they had a lifeline when Eric Vales headed Joan Cervos’ free-kick into the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.
With a quarter of the match remaining, Pukki delivered a memorable “passing of the baton” moment. Amid a flowing Finnish move, he found himself on the edge of the area and set up debutant Niklas Pyyhtiä, who scored six minutes into his first international appearance. Four minutes later, Pukki was substituted to a standing ovation, receiving adoring cheers from teammates, coaches, and all corners of the stadium.
Finland added further gloss to the scoreline late on. Topi Keskinen scored two headers in the final 10 minutes, before Leo Walta finished off an added-time cutback to seal the 4-0 victory and spark celebrations of the “Pukki Party.”
Jacob Friis’ side ended a run of consecutive defeats, while Andorra concluded 2025 without recording a single victory.
