Como began 2026 on a positive note, edging past Udinese 1–0 at home to extend their impressive unbeaten run at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia to 10 matches in all competitions this season (W7, D3).

The Lariani carried strong momentum into the new year, having suffered just two defeats over the previous four months (W7, D6), a run highlighted by six clean sheets in their last 10 league outings.

Playing in idyllic conditions beside Lake Como, the hosts made a dream start. Just after the 15-minute mark, Alberto Moreno was brought down in the area by Jakub Piotrowski, giving Como a penalty. Despite having missed their previous six spot-kicks in Serie A — a streak stretching back more than 20 years — captain Lucas Da Cunha stepped up confidently and converted straight down the middle to break the drought.

Udinese, who had endured a difficult end to 2025 after an encouraging start to the campaign, arrived with momentum against them. Kosta Runjaic’s side had managed just one win in five and had lost five of their last seven away league matches, and they struggled to impose themselves in the first half. They were fortunate not to fall further behind before the interval, with goalkeeper Daniele Padelli producing an excellent save to deny Maximo Perrone’s clever near-post flick.

The Bianconeri showed greater urgency after the restart and thought they had drawn level 10 minutes into the second half when Nicolo Zaniolo rounded Jean Butez and finished calmly, only for the goal to be ruled out for a marginal offside.

Alerted by the warning, Como pushed for a second goal to ease the tension. They came agonisingly close on the hour mark when Anastasios Douvikas reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box but rattled the crossbar with a powerful strike.

Although unable to add to their lead, Cesc Fàbregas’ side showed commendable defensive resilience to repel Udinese’s advances and secure another clean sheet.

The victory solidifies Como’s place in the European positions heading into the remainder of the weekend’s fixtures, while Udinese slip to eight points adrift of the top six.
