Manchester City’s newest signing, Antoine Semenyo, made an immediate impression on his debut, scoring as the club matched their biggest-ever FA Cup win with a 10-1 thrashing of Exeter City on Saturday.

The 26-year-old Ghanaian winger, who has 10 league goals and three assists this season, joined City earlier in the week amid interest from several Premier League rivals.

“Antoine is settling in really well,” said Assistant Manager Pep Lijnders, who took charge while Pep Guardiola served a one-game touchline ban. “He’s humble, and we’ve been tracking him for a long time, but he brings exactly what we need to the frontline. He attacks quickly, chases every ball, and doesn’t stop. Today showed how quickly he can adapt to our style.”

Semenyo played a part in City’s fifth goal, slipping a perfectly weighted pass to defender Rico Lewis in the 49th minute, before scoring himself five minutes later with a clinical finish from inside the penalty area.

“Everyone wanted him, and there’s a reason for that. He’s shown that today,” Lewis said. “It’s felt like a seamless transition into the team. On top of that, he’s a really good person, which is another positive.”

City will next face Newcastle United in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final on Tuesday, before returning to league action against Manchester United in the Manchester derby on Saturday.
