Eintracht Frankfurt defender Rasmus Kristensen is set to undergo ankle surgery after suffering a serious ligament injury and could miss the remainder of the season.

The 28-year-old right-back damaged ligaments in his left ankle during Frankfurt’s 3-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach. Following further assessment by a specialist, it has been determined that an operation is unavoidable.

According to reports, the Bundesliga side are bracing for the possibility that Kristensen will be sidelined for the rest of the campaign, dealing a significant blow both to the club and the Danish national team.

The injury means Kristensen will miss Denmark’s crucial World Cup qualification playoff matches. He had already been suspended for the first leg against North Macedonia national football team, and the surgery now rules him out of a potential decisive clash against either the Czech Republic national football team or the Republic of Ireland national football team.
