Saibari brilliance fires PSV to big win over FC Utrecht

With a potential title celebration on the horizon, PSV delivered when it mattered most, securing a 4-3 victory over FC Utrecht thanks to a brilliant performance from Ismael Saibari and a late winner from Couhaib Driouech.
After missing out on the Eredivisie title following two defeats in their previous two matches, PSV were handed a third opportunity to seal the championship with a win against FC Utrecht. For the title to be confirmed, Feyenoord would also need to drop points against FC Volendam on Sunday.
With Ricardo Pepi—a reported Fulham target—starting on the bench and Guus Til leading the line, PSV endured a difficult opening as Artem Stepanov struck in the third minute to give the visitors an early and unexpected lead.
PSV’s defensive issues continued to cause problems as Gjivai Zechiël doubled FC Utrecht’s lead ten minutes after the opener, finishing calmly after a well-worked team move. Spanish defender Yarek Gasiorowski endured another difficult moment, losing his duel in clumsy fashion and allowing the visitors to break through the PSV back line.
As he so often does, Ismael Saibari pulled PSV back into the contest with a superb individual effort. He outmuscled Siebe Horemans through skill and composure before striking from inside the box, beating Vasilis Barkas to give Eindhoven a crucial lifeline.
PSV then increased the intensity, pinning FC Utrecht deep in their own half. Joey Veerman, Dennis Man, and Guus Til all tested Barkas, with Til particularly unlucky as he missed a clear chance in front of an open goal.
After Kiliann Sildillia struck the crossbar just before half-time, Ismael Saibari once again made his presence felt early in the second half. He overpowered Matisse Didden after latching onto a long ball from Mauro Junior, leaving Vasilis Barkas helpless in the one-on-one situation.
Saibari continued his outstanding performance against FC Utrecht, this time outpacing Niklas Vesterlund with a brilliant touch before setting up Guus Til, who converted to give PSV their first lead of the match in under an hour.
As both the weather and the atmosphere brightened in Eindhoven, Jerdy Schouten suffered a setback after picking up a knee injury that forced the PSV captain to be stretchered off in the 65th minute.
Following the 3-2 lead, PSV eased their intensity, allowing FC Utrecht to gradually build momentum. Under Ron Jans, the visitors came close to equalising through Yoann Cathline, whose header lacked the power needed to beat Matej Kovar.
With the soon-to-be champions still showing some hesitation, FC Utrecht seized the moment and drew level with eight minutes remaining when Jesper Karlsson found the bottom corner, placing his effort into Matej Kovar’s right-hand side and threatening to spoil PSV’s title celebrations.
In a chaotic and dramatic finish to an already unpredictable match, PSV pushed forward during the eight minutes of added time and were eventually rewarded. Couhaib Driouech delivered a decisive late strike, firing past a stranded Vasilis Barkas to secure a remarkable and hard-fought victory for the hosts.
With all three points secured, PSV must now wait to see the outcome of Feyenoord’s match against FC Volendam on Sunday. Any dropped points for Feyenoord would see PSV crowned Eredivisie champions for the 27th time. A Feyenoord victory would keep the 15-point gap intact, although PSV’s superior goal difference of 20 goals effectively leaves them in a commanding position to secure the title.
