Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. secured back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since April 2025, as André’s first goal for the club sealed a dramatic 2-1 win over champions Liverpool F.C. at Molineux.

With relegation looming, Wolves’ fearless approach had already sparked a mini-revival, taking four points from recent home games against Arsenal and Aston Villa. Determined not to become their latest high-profile scalp, Liverpool began brightly. Cody Gakpo tested José Sá early with a speculative effort from distance, while Jeremie Frimpong later blazed over after a surging run and clever pass from Hugo Ekitiké.

Wolves were content to absorb pressure and frustrated the visitors throughout a largely forgettable first half. Rob Edwards’ side failed to muster a single attempt before the interval, but Liverpool, despite dominating possession, managed just two shots on target themselves.

The visitors thought they had a case for a penalty shortly after the restart when Frimpong’s cross appeared to strike Ladislav Krejčí’s arm, but appeals were waved away. From the resulting corner, Ekitiké flicked on Mohamed Salah’s delivery towards Curtis Jones, only for Gakpo to inadvertently clear the danger before the ball rebounded off the crossbar and away.

Ekitiké remained lively, driving down the right and sending in an inviting early cross that Krejčí did superbly to intercept ahead of the lurking Alexis Mac Allister.

Then, against the run of play, came the breakthrough. Tolu Arokodare outmuscled Virgil van Dijk to latch onto a long ball and slipped Rodrigo Gomes through on goal. The winger kept his composure, delicately dinking the ball over Alisson in the 78th minute to send Molineux into raptures.

Liverpool nearly responded immediately when Rio Ngumhoma’s deflected effort was brilliantly tipped onto the post by Sá. The equaliser did eventually arrive, as Salah intercepted Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s stray pass and toe-poked beyond Sá for his first league goal since November.

Arne Slot’s side threw everything forward in stoppage time in search of a winner, but incredibly it was Wolves who struck the decisive blow. Deep into added time, André unleashed a strike that took a significant deflection off Joe Gomez, wrong-footing Alisson and sealing a famous victory.

Though Wolves remain 11 points adrift of safety, performances like this will continue to fuel belief in an unlikely escape. For Liverpool, meanwhile, the defeat represents a costly setback in an increasingly tight battle for UEFA Champions League qualification, as they missed the chance to strengthen their position in the top five.
