RB Leipzig returned to winning form with a confident 2–0 triumph over Werder Bremen at the Red Bull Arena, extending their perfect home record this season to five victories from five.

Marco Rose’s side entered the international break on a sour note after surrendering a 3–1 advantage in a frustrating loss to Hoffenheim, ending a nine-match unbeaten streak. Determined not to repeat that lapse, Leipzig took control from the opening whistle, dominating possession and setting the tempo early on.

Clear chances, however, were slow to arrive. Midway through the first half, Christoph Baumgartner squandered a promising opportunity, heading wide from David Raum’s pinpoint delivery. Leipzig continued to test Bremen without truly troubling goalkeeper Mio Backhaus, who comfortably handled a series of tame efforts.

The hosts finally forced Backhaus into meaningful action after 30 minutes when Forzan Assan Ouedraogo unleashed a powerful strike from distance, but the young keeper reacted sharply to push the ball clear of the bottom corner. Backhaus produced an even better stop in first-half stoppage time, stretching brilliantly to claw away Baumgartner’s header towards the top corner.

Werder emerged from the break with renewed purpose and almost snatched a surprise opener just two minutes into the second half. Romano Schmid’s long-range attempt looked dangerous, but Peter Gulacsi matched it with a strong save to keep the score level.

Leipzig soon restored their grip on the match, and the breakthrough arrived through the impressive Ouedraogo. This time, his fierce effort from the edge of the box left Backhaus no chance as it rocketed into the top-left corner.

Bremen responded positively and nearly equalised through Schmid once again, but Gulacsi denied him with another excellent stop. Leipzig, unfazed, reasserted themselves and wrapped up the points in the final 10 minutes. Xaver Schlager reacted quickest to a loose ball following a corner, firing home to double the advantage.

The victory keeps Leipzig firmly in pursuit of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, remaining six points adrift in second place. For Bremen, the defeat dents their hopes of pushing into the European places, leaving them five points behind Eintracht Frankfurt in sixth.
