RB Leipzig return to winning ways against Freiburg

RB Leipzig continued their dominance over SC Freiburg with a comfortable 2–0 victory that reinforced their place in the Bundesliga’s top four and extended their unbeaten head-to-head run against Freiburg to 14 matches.
Despite both sides competing for European qualification, the opening exchanges lacked intensity and quality. Clear chances were at a premium, with the first real opportunity not arriving until the 20th minute, when Maximilian Eggestein’s header was comfortably collected by Leipzig goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi.
Leipzig enjoyed the bulk of the possession in attacking areas but struggled to turn that control into genuine goal threats. Their most promising moment of the first half came shortly before the interval, as a quick throw-in created space for Christoph Baumgartner inside the box, only for the midfielder to volley well wide.
The contest came to life early in the second half. Just 10 minutes after the restart, David Raum delivered an inviting cross to the far post, where Willi Orbán rose highest to head home his first goal of the season.
Rather than easing off, Leipzig pressed for more, and their momentum was soon rewarded. Another set piece caused problems for Freiburg, with Baumgartner’s initial effort forcing a save from Noah Atubolu before Rômulo Cardoso reacted quickest to nod in the rebound and double the lead.
Freiburg struggled to mount a response, offering little of the resilience that had previously seen them recover more points from losing positions than any other Bundesliga side this season. Antonio Nusa went close to adding a third when his effort took a deflection and narrowly missed the target, but Leipzig remained firmly in control.
The hosts saw out the closing stages with ease, making it nine wins from their last 10 competitive home matches and ending their own recent losing run in convincing fashion.
