Raphinha will miss FC Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash against Atlético Madrid in April after suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty.

The Brazilian winger picked up the injury during Brazil national football team’s 2-1 friendly loss to France national football team in the United States on Thursday.

In an official statement, the Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed that both Raphinha and Roma full-back Wesley experienced discomfort in their right hamstrings during the match.

Medical examinations carried out on Friday revealed muscle injuries for both players, the federation added.

Barcelona later confirmed that Raphinha will return to the club to begin treatment, with the winger expected to spend a period on the sidelines as he recovers.

Raphinha is a vital figure for FC Barcelona, who will now have to cope without him in both legs of their clash against Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid, scheduled for April 8 at home and April 14 away.

The 29-year-old forward, who has netted 19 goals this season, is also set to miss several La Liga fixtures, including matches against Atlético, Espanyol, Celta Vigo and Getafe.

Barcelona will be hoping he recovers in time for the El Clásico against Real Madrid on May 10, as well as a possible Champions League semi-final showdown with either Arsenal or Sporting CP on April 29.

Raphinha is also expected to regain fitness ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, which kicks off on June 11 across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
