Qormi moved to the summit of the BOV Amateur League I standings on Friday night after securing a clinical 3-1 win over Mellieha at the Centenary Stadium.

The match began with an early shock for the promotion hopefuls as Ismael Borg found the net for Mellieha just four minutes into the game. However, Qormi responded with composure; David Emmanuel Garba spearheaded the comeback, equalising in the 19th minute before striking again in the 31st to turn the game on its head. Dario Aquilina put the result beyond doubt in the 65th minute, ensuring Qormi leapfrogged Attard to take first place.

Senglea Athletic Edge Pembroke Athleta in Late Drama

In the evening’s other fixture, Senglea Athletic secured a vital three points with a 2-1 victory over Pembroke Athleta. Senglea took the lead late in the first half through Johan Castano (41′). The match appeared to be heading for a stalemate when Lucas Gomes equalised for Pembroke in the 88th minute. However, there was a final twist in stoppage time as Keith Muscat converted a 94th-minute penalty to hand Senglea the win.
