Postecoglou calls Nottingham Forest move “a bad decision” and rules out Celtic return

Ange Postecoglou has admitted he has only himself to blame for his extraordinarily brief spell as Nottingham Forest F.C. manager, describing his decision to take the job as “a bad decision.”
The 60-year-old was appointed in September as the successor to Nuno Espirito Santo, but Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis dismissed him after just 39 days following six defeats in eight matches.
Speaking on the Overlap podcast, Postecoglou reflected that his eagerness to return to management so soon after leaving Tottenham Hotspur F.C. was a key factor in the short-lived tenure.
“There’s no point me blaming it on ‘I didn’t get time’ or anything,” he said. “I should never have gone in there. That was on me. That was a bad decision by me to go in there. I’ve got to take ownership of that.
“It was too soon after Tottenham. I was taking over at a time where they were used to doing things a certain way, and I was obviously going to do things differently. I’ve got to cop that. That was my mistake. It’s no one else’s fault.”
Postecoglou, who is currently without a club, has also ruled out a return to Celtic F.C. are currently under caretaker charge of Martin O’Neill until the end of the season.
“I loved Celtic, it’s a wonderful football club,” he said. “If I was younger, I probably would have stayed there longer — three, four years maybe. I think I could have made progress with them in Europe, but the opportunity to join Tottenham was too good at the time.
“In terms of going back, I don’t go back. That’s not really been my career. Whatever the next step is, it’ll be something new, somewhere I can make an impact, somewhere I can win things. But it doesn’t diminish the affection I have for Celtic.”
