Pisa stun Milan despite stoppage-time goal at San Siro

AC Milan squandered a golden opportunity to stretch their Serie A lead to four points, as they were held to a surprising 2-2 draw by Pisa at San Siro — a result that nearly handed the visitors a historic first away win over the Rossoneri.
The hosts made a dream start, taking the lead inside seven minutes through Rafael Leão. The Portuguese winger cut in from the left and unleashed a superb strike from over 20 yards to notch his third league goal of the campaign.
Pisa struggled to create any threat before the break, failing to register a single shot on target. But the momentum shifted dramatically just before the hour mark when a VAR review penalised Koni De Winter for handball inside the box. Substitute Juan Cuadrado coolly converted the resulting spot-kick to silence the San Siro crowd.
The equaliser spurred Milan back into action. Leão came agonisingly close to restoring the lead moments later, his powerful effort clipping the crossbar. Pisa goalkeeper Adrian Šemper then produced a stunning save to tip over a long-range strike from Alexis Saelemaekers, keeping the visitors in contention for a rare result in Milan — their first since 1989.
Against all odds, Pisa took the lead with four minutes of normal time remaining. M’Bala Nzola latched onto a through ball and slotted calmly past Mike Maignan to complete a remarkable turnaround.
But Milan refused to surrender. In the third minute of stoppage time, Zachary Athekame pounced to level the score and spare the hosts from a humiliating home defeat. The drama didn’t end there — Saelemaekers almost capped a stunning solo run with a last-gasp winner, but his effort drifted just wide as the final whistle blew.
While Milan remain top of Serie A by two points, the draw feels more like a setback, with Inter, Napoli, and Roma all capable of closing the gap later this weekend. Pisa, meanwhile, can take heart from a valiant display that lifts them off the foot of the table and into 18th place.
