Spain extended their longest-ever unbeaten streak in competitive fixtures to 30 matches with a commanding 4-0 victory over Georgia in FIFA World Cup qualifying Group E, putting La Roja on the brink of securing their place at next summer’s finals.

It took only 10 minutes in Tbilisi for Luis de la Fuente’s side to find a breakthrough. A Giorgi Gocholeishvili handball inside the box handed Spain a penalty, and Mikel Oyarzabal—winning his 50th cap—coolly sent Giorgi Mamardashvili the wrong way to open the scoring.

Georgia’s attempts to respond were limited and largely dependent on star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but Spain remained in complete control. Alex Baena struck the post with a low drive before Martín Zubimendi reacted quickest to prod in a loose ball midway through the first half, doubling the advantage and tightening La Roja’s grip on proceedings.

The hosts still had not registered a shot on target after 30 minutes, despite the efforts of Zuriko Davitashvili, and Spain soon added a third. Baena slipped a clever ball into Oyarzabal, whose well-weighted cross was bundled home by Ferran Torres from close range. Only a remarkable save from Mamardashvili in stoppage time denied Oyarzabal a second before the break.

Georgia showed greater intent at the start of the second half, with debutant Iuri Tabatadze forcing a strong header on goal and Anzor Mekvabishvili firing on target from distance. Yet Spain’s dominance never truly wavered, and they restored full control as Oyarzabal claimed his second of the night, guiding a looping header in off the post to make it 4-0 and seal a resounding win.

The result marked Spain’s fifth consecutive qualification victory and leaves them virtually assured of a World Cup berth, barring a highly improbable heavy defeat to Turkey. For Georgia, it was a ninth loss in 10 meetings with La Roja, conceding 24 goals across the last five encounters.
