Olise on fire as Bayern rout Leipzig 5-1 in dominant display

A scintillating display from substitute Michael Olise helped Bayern Munich overturn a first-half deficit to thrash RB Leipzig 5-1, extending their unbeaten Bundesliga streak and stretching their lead at the top to 11 points.
Bayern, who have been formidable on the road this season (W7, D1), faced an early scare when Yan Diomande’s cutback found Antonio Nusa at the back post, only for the striker to direct it wide from close range. Leipzig then had another chance when Lennart Karl raced onto a Harry Kane through ball, but the winger lacked the pace to beat his marker and hesitated at the crucial moment, failing to test Manuel Neuer or pick out Luis Diaz for a tap-in.
Leipzig capitalised shortly afterwards. A slick move down the left ended with David Raum delivering a low cross to Romulo Cardoso, who got ahead of his marker and slotted past Neuer to score his second goal in as many games in 2026. Nusa had an opportunity to double the lead midway through the half but fired over, and the hosts maintained their advantage at the break despite Bayern struggling to create clear-cut chances.
The visitors punished Leipzig’s wastefulness just five minutes into the second half. A lapse from Christoph Baumgartner allowed Dayot Upamecano to win the ball back and feed Serge Gnabry, who calmly finished to level the score.
Leipzig nearly regained the lead on 64 minutes, but Neuer tipped Romulo’s thunderous strike over the bar. The save proved crucial as Bayern then asserted their dominance. Kane capitalised on a defensive error from Ridle Baku at the back post, slotting home to complete the turnaround and notch his fourth goal against Leipzig this season.
Bayern added three more in the final stages thanks to Olise’s brilliance. His corner was headed home by Jonathan Tah, before he sprinted down the right and set up Aleksandar Pavlovic for a simple finish. Olise then curled home a sublime effort to cap the 5-1 rout, completing a miserable night for Leipzig, who have now failed to win any of their last 10 home encounters with Bayern. The defeat leaves the hosts in fourth place, clinging to a Champions League spot only on goal difference.
