West Ham United manager Nuno Espírito Santo has admitted there are “many problems” within the club following Friday night’s 2-1 defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road.

The loss leaves the Hammers sitting 19th in the Premier League table, deep in relegation trouble.

Speaking after the match, Nuno did not shy away from addressing the issues his side is facing.

“There are many problems in our club, unfortunately,” he said. “It is not up to us to hide behind them. Everyone has to take responsibility, do much more, and be in the right position.”

The Portuguese boss reflected on tactical shortcomings during the game, particularly in defence and attack.

“We were not dealing with our defensive situations, and I felt like we needed a striker to hold the ball — so maybe that’s not the greatest from me,” he admitted. “These kinds of mistakes are unacceptable in the Premier League.”

Despite the defeat, Nuno insisted that the team still has the quality to turn things around — but only if attitudes and effort improve.

“There is quality here, there is time, but nothing will happen if we don’t change,” he said. “We must change our attitude, our approach, commit ourselves better, prepare better, and work harder.

“We can’t expect things to change by themselves. Thinking we have time can be a mistake if we don’t act quickly.”

Reflecting on the match, Nuno summed up his team’s performance bluntly:

“It’s simple — we didn’t deal with the problems. We didn’t deal with many things. We have to work hard and be much better. I feel the players want to, but they switch off in too many moments.”
