Nicky Grixti returns to Sirens ASC After six seasons at Sliema

Malta goalkeeper Nicky Grixti has decided to return to his boyhood club Sirens ASC, marking a homecoming after six successful seasons with Sliema ASC.
Grixti, who began his senior career at Sirens, moved to Sliema in 2019. During his time with the Blues, he played a key role in helping the team secure a league and cup double in 2024, as well as winning the Winter League title in 2022.
His return to St Paul’s Bay is seen as a major boost for Sirens as they gear up for another competitive season.
“We’re proud to confirm that goalkeeper Nicky Grixti has decided to return to the club,” Sirens said in a statement. “One of Malta’s most experienced and reliable figures between the posts, Nicky’s leadership and presence continue to be an asset both in and out of the water. With countless key saves and calm under pressure, Nicky remains a pillar in our squad.”
Matthew Mifsud Joins Sirens
Sirens also strengthened their squad further with the signing of Matthew Mifsud, formerly of Valletta United W.P.C. Mifsud, a senior Malta international, has joined the club on a long-term contract.
“Matthew brings with him experience at the highest level, having been selected for Malta’s senior national team. Welcome to the Sirens Family, Matthew – we can’t wait to see you in our colours,” the club said.
Jake Cachia Moves to Sliema
Meanwhile, Sirens confirmed the departure of Jake Cachia, who is set to join Sliema ASC ahead of the upcoming campaign. Cachia spent the last three seasons with Sirens and was an important part of their squad.
“After three committed seasons at Sirens ASC, Jake Cachia will be making the move to Sliema for the upcoming campaign,” the club stated.
With the return of Grixti, the arrival of Mifsud, and Cachia’s departure, Sirens have made their intentions clear early in the transfer market as they aim to strengthen their challenge in the coming season.
