Newcastle eye new striker for summer as Woltemade and Wissa struggle

Newcastle United are set to intensify their search for a new striker as they continue to feel the impact of Alexander Isak’s departure.
The Sweden international’s £125 million move to Liverpool last summer proved a turning point, with his absence keenly felt in front of goal. Isak netted 27 times in his final season on Tyneside, a tally his successors have struggled to match.
In response, Newcastle invested heavily in Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, spending a combined £124 million. However, the returns have fallen short of expectations, with Woltemade scoring 10 goals and Wissa managing just three this season.
As a result, the club are reassessing their attacking options, with sources suggesting at least one of the pair could depart this summer. Recruitment staff are already working to identify a more dependable focal point, while William Osula currently appears the most likely of the forwards to remain.
The message from within the club is clear: Newcastle must secure a proven goalscorer if they are to compete at the level they aspire to.
That process is unfolding alongside wider strategic discussions. While Eddie Howe is expected to remain in charge, alternative options such as Roberto Mancini and Jose Mourinho have been explored in recent weeks.
Uncertainty also surrounds key players including Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, with decisions over their futures still pending as part of what is shaping up to be a major summer rebuild.
Replacing Alexander Isak was never going to be straightforward, but after this season, it appears increasingly likely that Newcastle will renew their efforts to find a striker capable of delivering consistently.
