Mosta FC bolster squad with four late Deadline Day signings

Mosta FC were one of the most active clubs in the final hours of the winter transfer window, completing four key signings on Thursday night, 5 February 2026, just before the deadline. The “Blues” are looking to overhaul their form in the Closing Round of the 2025–26 Maltese Premier League, where they currently sit at the bottom of the table without a point.
Defensive Reinforcements: Zammit and Costa
Mosta focused heavily on defensive stability by adding a mix of local experience and international grit:
- Kurt Zammit: The veteran defender arrives with significant top-flight pedigree, ending an 11-year association with Birkirkara to join the Blues. His defensive versatility is expected to provide immediate stability to a struggling backline.
- Gilson Costa: The 29-year-old defensive midfielder remains in Maltese football after being released by newly-promoted Tarxien Rainbows in December 2025. Mosta has handed the Portuguese player a lifeline with a contract running until the end of the season.
Attacking Additions: Portelli and Kozic
To address their goal-scoring struggles, Mosta secured two new options for their forward line:
- Nevin Portelli: The young Maltese international winger joins from Marsaxlokk. Known for his attacking flair, Portelli is a key part of the club’s strategy to climb out of the relegation zone.
- Azer Kozic: The final signing is 24-year-old Bosnian forward Azer Kozic. Kozic joins following spells in Croatia (NK Kutjevo), Slovenia (Kety Bistrica), and most recently with the Macedonian side Bashkimi.
Upcoming Debut
All four new recruits—Zammit, Portelli, Costa, and Kozic—are eligible to make their debuts this weekend. Mosta FC will host Sliema Wanderers in a crucial Premier League clash scheduled for Sunday, 8 February 2026, at 14:00.
