Michael Olise inspires Bayern Munich rout of Wolfsburg

Bayern Munich tightened their grip on the Bundesliga title race by opening up an 11-point lead at the summit following an emphatic 8-1 demolition of Wolfsburg. The victory also extended Bayern’s unbeaten home record against Wolfsburg in the top flight to 29 matches (W27, D2).
Fresh from ending 2025 with a commanding away win at Heidenheim, the Bavarians picked up where they left off, bursting out of the blocks in their first outing of the new year. Their early pressure paid off when Luis Díaz’s driven ball from the byline caused chaos in the Wolfsburg defence, with Kilian Fischer inadvertently diverting the ball past his own goalkeeper.
Wolfsburg responded admirably to the early setback, drawing level just eight minutes later. Lovro Majer threaded a perfectly weighted through-ball into the path of Dženan Pejčinović, who kept his composure to guide a calm finish beyond Manuel Neuer.
The visitors continued to pose a threat during a breathless opening spell, as long-range efforts from Christian Eriksen and Majer narrowly missed the target. However, Bayern reasserted their authority on the half-hour mark when Michael Olise delivered a pinpoint inswinging cross that Díaz glanced into the bottom corner, extending Bayern’s remarkable run to 24 consecutive Bundesliga matches with at least two goals scored.
Vincent Kompany’s side looked eager to build further momentum before the break, but Wolfsburg goalkeeper Kamil Grabara stood firm, producing a fine save to deny Lennart Karl from close range.
As in the first half, Bayern emerged after the interval with relentless intensity, and their dominance was swiftly reflected on the scoresheet. Olise doubled the lead by cutting in from the right and curling a stunning effort into the far corner, before his dangerous low cross moments later was turned into his own net by Moritz Jenz.
With a commanding cushion established, Bayern showed no signs of easing off. Harry Kane and Olise both went close before Raphael Guerreiro made it five, tapping home after intelligent build-up play from Kane.
The England captain then got his reward just a minute later, bending a sublime strike into the top corner to register his 20th Bundesliga goal of the season. Bayern’s relentless attacking display continued into the final quarter-hour, with Olise grabbing his second of the night via a low finish after being picked out by Díaz.
The rout was completed late on when Leon Goretzka stretched to convert clinically, putting the finishing touches on a stunning performance. The result marked another significant stride towards what would be Bayern Munich’s 13th Bundesliga title in the last 14 seasons.
