The battle for survival and mid-table positioning in the BOV Amateur League I intensified on Saturday, with Mellieha picking up a crucial victory while Senglea Athletic and Xghajra Tornados fought out a stalemate.

Hernandez Heroics Lift Mellieha at Sirens Stadium

Mellieha secured three vital points in their quest to climb the table, narrowly defeating Kirkop United 1-0. In a tightly contested affair at the Sirens Stadium, the deadlock was finally broken six minutes into the second half. Jhanluis Hernandez proved to be the match-winner, slotting home the only goal of the game to move Mellieha level on points with their opponents.

Spoils Shared Between Senglea and Xghajra

Elsewhere, Senglea Athletic and Xghajra Tornados had to settle for a point apiece following a 1-1 draw. Senglea looked to be in control early on when Glen Pace found the net in the 22nd minute. However, Xghajra fought back before the interval, with Cheyzen Spagnol coolly converting a penalty in the 40th minute. Despite second-half efforts from both sides, the scoreline remained unchanged.
