Real Madrid edged a pulsating seven-goal contest in Greece, defeating Olympiacos 4-3 to end the hosts’ nine-match unbeaten home run in European competition. The victory also marked Los Blancos’ first win on Greek soil in 10 attempts.

Madrid settled quickly, with Vinícius Júnior’s early burst nearly producing the opener, only for Konstantinos Tzolakis to palm his effort over the bar. But Olympiacos struck first against the run of play. A slick passing sequence between Daniel Podence, Ayoub El Kaabi and Chiquinho culminated in the latter drilling a low shot beyond Andriy Lunin.

The Ukrainian keeper soon kept his side afloat with a superb full-stretch save to deny Chiquinho a second. That stop proved pivotal, as moments later Kylian Mbappé was left unmarked and calmly fired in the equaliser. Within two minutes, he rose to head home Arda Güler’s pinpoint cross, turning the game on its head. Then, exploiting a high defensive line, he ran in behind to complete an astonishing seven-minute hat-trick — the second-fastest in Champions League history.

Vinícius thought he had added a fourth for Madrid with a gorgeous finish, but the goal was chalked off for a marginal Mbappé offside in the build-up. Olympiacos, rattled and disorganised, narrowly avoided further damage when Aurélien Tchouaméni’s fierce attempt clattered off the bar. Lunin then produced another sharp save to keep out El Kaabi before the break.

Six minutes into the second half, Olympiacos found a lifeline. Substitute Santiago Hezze lofted in a teasing cross, and Mehdi Taremi ghosted in unmarked to head home. But any hope of a comeback was short-lived. Vinícius weaved through several defenders and squared unselfishly for Mbappé, who tapped in his fourth of the night.

Madrid dominated possession for much of the half, though Olympiacos continued to threaten sporadically and were rewarded when El Kaabi headed past a rooted Lunin to make it 4-3. The hosts finished strongly, pushing the Spaniards back in the closing minutes, but Real Madrid held firm to secure a landmark victory.

The win ended a three-match winless streak for the Spanish giants and delivered Olympiacos their first-ever home defeat to Real Madrid — despite a spirited late surge from the Greek side.
