Marsa St Michael eliminated from MAFA KO

Title holders Marsa St Michael were eliminated from the MAFA KO after suffering a 3-0 defeat against Senglea Gunners. The Marsa side, who had won this competition last season, found it very difficult to keep up with the pace of their opponents, who on the other hand were very effective in attack.
Isaac Kwesi Dankwah put Senglea ahead after nine minutes, while a minute into the second half Lamin Jaiteh made it 2-0.
Isaac Kwesi Dankwah then sealed the win by scoring his personal brace and sending his team into the semi-finals of the competition.
The referee was Ray Tabone.
First Division champions Għaxaq Wolves registered a comfortable 2-0 win against San Ġwann Pro Evolution Academy.
Their main protagonist was Brazilian striker Diego Fernando Pereira, who scored a brace with one goal in each half.
San Ġwann tried their best, but could do little to break down the Wolves’ defence.
The referee was Igor Kankaras.
Valletta St Paul’s won the capital city derby against Valletta Stars St Dominic 3-1.
The Citizens were already 3-0 ahead, and it was only late in the game that St Dominic managed to reduce the deficit.
Juan Zarate Ortega opened the scoring for St Paul’s, before Guillherme da Lima Mendes struck twice towards the end. Federico Marine Tejada’s goal two minutes from time proved to be only a consolation for St Dominic.
The referee was Miguel Francica.
Ħamrun Sporting needed penalties to eliminate Naxxar Victorians 3-2. The score remained goalless at the end of the 70 minutes and after the match went to penalties, the Ħamrun side showed excellent composure to secure qualification for the semi-finals.
The referee was Paul Apap.
The MAFA KO semi-finals will be played between June 2 and June 3 with the following schedule:

Tuesday 2 June
7:00pm – Ħamrun Sporting vs Senglea Gunners
Wednesday 3 June
7:00pm – Valletta St Paul’s vs Għaxaq Wolves
The final will be played on Saturday 6 June at 4:30pm at the Marsaxlokk Ground.
