Rúben Amorim is chasing his first hat-trick of Premier League victories as Manchester United manager — but the Portuguese coach has urged caution after last weekend’s dramatic win over Liverpool.

United’s 2–1 triumph at Anfield marked Amorim’s first back-to-back league wins since taking charge in November, lifting the Red Devils to ninth in the table and injecting a rare sense of optimism around Old Trafford.

However, speaking ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, Amorim was quick to temper expectations.

“We use the good spirit of winning games. We know that was a good weekend for us, but our focus is on the next game — that’s in the past,” he told reporters on Friday.

“Football has changed a lot, especially at a club like this. We’re not thinking about Liverpool anymore. Brighton will be a very hard game to win.”

The United boss also highlighted how fine the margins were in their victory at Anfield, noting that small moments can alter narratives.

“If [Liverpool forward Cody] Gakpo shoots 20 centimetres differently, the story would be completely different,” he added. “So I just want to maintain calm and stay focused on our direction.”

Staying Grounded Amid Pressure

Amorim acknowledged the scrutiny that comes with managing a club of United’s stature — particularly when results falter.

“There’s always doubt when you’re a manager at this kind of club,” he said. “If you don’t win enough games, people will question you — and they have reasons to.

“But we need to be clear about our path and not change too much. Winning one game doesn’t mean everything.”

Respect for Brighton and Hurzeler

Amorim’s United will face a Brighton side sitting just one point behind them in tenth, led by 31-year-old German manager Fabian Hürzeler — a coach Amorim says he admires greatly.

“I’m a huge fan of him,” Amorim admitted. “You can see how Brighton play — very intense, high quality, confident under pressure.

“They’re a complete team — strong in possession, dangerous in transitions, and effective on set pieces. It’s going to be a very difficult game, and we’ll need to be smart and focused in every moment.”

Team News

Amorim confirmed that Harry Maguire and Mason Mount are both doubts for the weekend after suffering minor knocks, though neither issue is considered serious. Lisandro Martínez, meanwhile, is close to returning to training as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.
