Man United’s Danish defender Dorgu set for 10-week layoff, World Cup playoffs in doubt

Patrick Dorgu is reportedly facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury during Manchester United’s dramatic 3–2 victory over Arsenal on Sunday. The setback is expected to rule him out of Denmark’s World Cup playoff campaign in March.
Despite the injury, Dorgu enjoyed a memorable afternoon at the Emirates, scoring a sensational long-range goal to give United a 2–1 lead. However, his celebrations were short-lived, as he was forced off just 30 minutes later after pulling up while chasing a loose ball. The Danish international immediately clutched his hamstring and was replaced by Benjamin Šeško.
Speaking after the match, United’s interim manager Michael Carrick initially played down the severity of the injury.
“He came off with hopefully a little bit of cramp, but hopefully it’s nothing worse,” Carrick said. “It shows what he put into his performance. We’re absolutely delighted for him, and we just hope he’s not too bad.
“At this stage, it’s hard to tell. We’ll have to wait and see, but we’re hoping it’s nothing serious.”
However, subsequent reports suggest Dorgu could be sidelined for up to 10 weeks. If confirmed, the defender is expected to miss United’s next eight matches and is unlikely to return until after the March international break. His potential comeback could come against Leeds United on April 11.
The injury also casts doubt over his availability for Denmark’s World Cup playoff semi-final against North Macedonia on March 26 at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. Should Denmark progress, they would face either the Czech Republic or Ireland in the final.
Manchester United have yet to officially confirm the extent of Dorgu’s injury. The 22-year-old has been an important figure this season, contributing three goals and three assists in 22 Premier League appearances.
