Malta drawn against Switzerland, Northern Ireland, and Türkiye in Women’s World Cup Qualifiers

Malta has been drawn into Group B2 alongside Switzerland, Northern Ireland, and Türkiye in the Women’s European Qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The draw took place on Tuesday, 4th November 2025, at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
Following their historic promotion earlier this year, the Malta Women’s National Team will compete in League B. Under the guidance of Head Coach Manuela Tesse, Malta topped Group C2 in the UEFA Women’s Nations League — their second promotion to League B under her leadership.
The team will now aim to continue their positive momentum on the European stage as they face some of the continent’s most competitive sides.
The UEFA Women’s European Qualifiers follow a league-based format similar to the UEFA Women’s Nations League, with 53 teams divided into three leagues: League A (16 teams), League B (16 teams), and League C (21 teams).
Reacting to the draw, Coach Manuela Tesse said:
“It could have been better but it could have been worse. We knew that moving up a level means facing stronger teams. We will prepare in the best way possible. We were already in League B before, so we can use that experience and bring it to the pitch.”
The league stage will take place across six matchdays:
- Matchday 1: Tuesday, 3 March 2026
- Matchday 2: Saturday, 7 March 2026
- Matchday 3: Tuesday, 14 April 2026
- Matchday 4: Saturday, 18 April 2026
- Matchday 5: Friday, 5 June 2026
- Matchday 6: Tuesday, 9 June 2026
UEFA has 11 qualification spots for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, with an additional place available through FIFA’s intercontinental playoffs.
At the conclusion of the league phase, group standings and overall rankings will determine direct qualification as well as play-off placements — marking another key milestone in Malta’s journey in women’s football.
