Floriana, Naxxar Lions and Żurrieq book their place in the Last 16

The Malta FA Jubilee Cup delivered an afternoon of drama and goals at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, as Floriana, Naxxar Lions and Żurrieq all secured their passage to the Last 16 stage of the competition.

Floriana edged past Challenge League side Birżebbuġa St Peter’s in a hard-fought clash played in rainy conditions.

• The Greens took the lead early on after Owen Spiteri tapped home from close range following a corner by Mattias Veselji.
• Birżebbuġa equalised on 37 minutes when a mistimed intervention by goalkeeper Álvaro Picón allowed Souza Oliveira to score.

• Soares Firmino added a third before half-time and later completed a brace with a thunderous strike in the 68th minute.
• Cloth Goncalves scored a brilliant consolation for Santa Lucia shortly after, but the damage was done.
• Santa Lucia missed a late penalty through Filip Petkovski, denying them a more respectable scoreline.

A dominant performance from Naxxar Lions sees them comfortably through to the next round.

Żurrieq 2–0 Vittoriosa Stars

The final match of the day saw Żurrieq overcome Vittoriosa Stars in a tight Challenge League encounter that only came alive late on.

• After a cagey opening hour, Jonathan Money broke the deadlock on 82 minutes with a towering header from a Brendan Schneider cross.
• Schneider then turned scorer in the 87th minute, slotting home Żurrieq’s second to seal the result.

Żurrieq’s late surge was enough to eliminate Vittoriosa and secure a Last 16 berth.
